About StenStat

StenStat began as a statistical consulting company in 1983. It was founded by Herbert Stenson, Ph.D. who was then a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago and is now emeritus. Consulting took many forms --- statistical aspects of medical research, expert testimony in court, and advising on the design of experiments, to name a few.

In 1986 Dr.Stenson began writing software for add-on modules to the popular SYSTAT statistical package. The first of these was Testat, a module for analyzing the data from psychological and academic tests and surveys. This was followed by Signal, a module for Signal Detection analysis. Then came QCStat for quality control analyses, followed by Design, a module to generate complex research designs. In addition, Dr.Stenson implemented important extensions for the factor analysis procedures in SYSTAT. All of these add-modules modules eventually were integrated into, and are still part of the regular SYSTAT package.

More recently StenStat has developed the free-standing Windows application called MedRoc, designed to perform receiver-operating-characteristic (ROC) analyses of biomedical research data. This is the topic of our Home Page here. More details can be found by clicking the MedRoc Features link, and by viewing some MedRoc ScreenShots.

In the near future StenStat will be announcing a stand-alone Windows version of an up-dated Testat program.
